One-sentence summary: CineLume has no server, collects no personal data, uses no tracking cookies, no telemetry, no third-party analytics. Everything you do stays on your device.
What data is collected?
None. CineLume has no server or database. Your favorites, watchlist, custom lists, preferences (theme, language, filters, notifications) and search history are stored exclusively in your browser's local storage (localStorage).
What external requests does the app make?
- api.themoviedb.org — to fetch movie data (title, synopsis, cast, posters, trailers). Governed by TMDB's privacy policy.
- image.tmdb.org — TMDB CDN for posters and backdrops.
- www.youtube.com — only when you click to watch a trailer. Governed by Google's privacy policy.
No other external requests. None to any CineLume server (there is none).
Cookies and tracking
- No cookies are set by CineLume.
- No advertising pixel (Meta, Google Ads, etc.).
- No third-party analytics (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Plausible, etc.).
- No application telemetry.
- No browser fingerprinting.
Push notifications
If you enable notifications in Settings, CineLume uses the browser's Notification API, locally. No third-party push service is used. Notifications are triggered by the app's own code when you re-open the application.
Local storage
The browser's local storage (localStorage) contains:
- Your favorites and watchlist (titles, TMDB IDs, release dates)
- Films you've marked as watched, with the watch date (used by Mon Calendrier and Mon Wrapped)
- Your custom lists with their films
- Your preferences (theme, language, active filters, spoiler-free mode, "déjà-vu" mode, notification quiet hours)
- Recent searches (last 8)
- A visit counter (anti-spam for the PWA install banner)
- A local TMDB cache to avoid re-fetching the same films
Mon Wrapped share images are generated entirely client-side via the Canvas API, on the fly. They are never sent to any server: sharing goes directly through your phone's native share API (or a local download).
You can clear all of this via Settings → "Clear cache" or by clearing the site's data in your browser.
Export and portability
You can export your watchlist in Letterboxd CSV format at any time via Settings → Letterboxd → Export. No proprietary lock-in.
Open source
The full source code is available on GitHub under MIT license. You can verify these claims yourself.
